‘Ice energy storage and power roof’

Viessmann Eis-Energiespeicher GmbH

The ‘Ice energy storage and power roof’ system uses a PVT collector to generate heat and electricity from the ambient air and solar rays. The thermal energy that is generated is then used to heat water in an underground concrete storage tank. This heat serves as source of energy for a heat pump that heats up the building and which is itself powered by the electrical energy generated by the system. The pump removes heat from the water, which is then cooled until it freezes, releasing useable crystallisation energy. In summer, the ice that forms in the ice energy storage is available as a cost-free and emission-free cooling reservoir.
